In order to provide students with a well rounded, practical self defense system, Monahan Martial Arts Center incorporates a combination of techniques and principles found in three disciplines: Karate, Kickboxing, and Submission Grappling.
Karate
Karate is where we get all of our traditional hand, elbow, knee and foot techniques, as well as blocks and kicks. We also get our character-building traditional values from karate.
Kickboxing
Kickboxing adds a more modern application of some of our techniques. Combining karate and kickboxing enables you to defend yourself in stand-up situations from long-range and mid-range attacks before someone gets close enough to actually grab you.
Submission Grappling
Submission Grappling teaches you how to get out of holds and grabs. You will also learn joint locks, chokes and submission holds that will help you defend yourself in close-range situations even if you end up on the ground.
Combining techniques from these three disciplines is what makes Monahan Martial Arts Center a mixed martial arts system. This gives students the knowledge and techniques they need to defend themselves in virtually any situation.
